Ephesus (Efes)
Ephesus (Efes)
Being one of the most important centres of the ancient world, Ephesus has always played a significant role at civilization, science, culture and art throughout it’s history which dates as back as 6000 B.C.. Ephesus was an important coastal town which had a role as a corridor between Europe and Asia. Thanks to it’s location Ephesus has grown to be one of the most important political and commercial center of it’s era and then to become the capital of the Asia State of Roman Empire. Ephesus does not owe it’s importance solely to it’s location. The other reason why Ephesus is a very important center is having the biggest temple of the Artemis culture. This temple is named as one of the world’s Ancient Wonders. Since Ephesus’ location has change many times throughout it’s history, Ephesus’ remains are spread in a very wide area. Spread approximately eight square kilometres, Ephesus’ remains are open to visitors.
