Things To Do in Fethiye Area

Oludeniz & Blue Lagoon:

Famed for its breathtaking beauty, Oludeniz has become one of Turkey’s most acclaimed resorts in the Fethiye area. It is a hugely popular anchorage for daily Boat trips around the surrounding islands and in summer the sky above the lagoon is filled with paragliders soaring off the nearby mountain. The resort itself sits behind a vast crescent of sand and pebble beach, on the fringes of a much larger sheltered turquoise blue lagoon, with magnificent pine-clad hills as a backdrop. No wonder it’s been declared a conservation area of natural beauty. You will find a good selection of cafes, bars and shops along the waterfront and in the narrow streets that run back from the beach.

Kayaköy(Ghost Village) :

If you follow the mountain road behind the Fethiye Citadel leading south, after 7 km. you will reach a fascinating settlement where the Anatolian Greek lived until 1922. In the past the Kaya Village was called " Levissi ". Due to a population exchange mutually signed by two countries in 1922, the Turks in Thrace and the Anatolian greeks were exchanged. However, the immigrants from Thrace could not adapt themselves to environmental conditions and abandoned the village in a short while. The Kaya Village plays host to visitors since 1923 as a "Ghost Town".

Saklikent :

Saklikent is about 45 km from Fethiye and well worth a trip out to this canyon. -second longest in this part of the world at 300 metres deep and 18 kilometers long. The entrance to this canyon is through a wooden passage fastened to the rocks above the stream by iron bars driven into the rocks. Once inside the water of the Xanthos river gushes out from the rocks and forms a stream at zero degrees. This stream has to be waded in to go into the gorge and its peretty chilly on the toes! Plastic shoes can be hired at the entrance but most people used their own.

Paragliding from Babadag Mountain:

Besides it’s wonderful beaches and friendly people, Ölüdeniz is the home for one of the most adrenaline pumped tourist attractions in the world, paragliding. Having great conditions for paragliding, Ölüdeniz is visited by thousands of adrenaline lovers from all around the world every year. To feel as a bird diving from a mountain into a wonderful scene, paragliders start their journey from the magnificent mountain Babadag , which is 1975 meters above the ground. After everything is set up for a safe journey, pilots then take off to the air, feeling the air currents moving around their bodies gently and with the vision of the wonderful Ölüdeniz below them , they start their journey only to land on the wonderful beach of Belcegiz after a great time, 30 minutes average, on the magnificent sky of Ölüdeniz.

Boat Trips & Yacht Charters:

What better way than to see the picturesque Islands around Fethiye and Ölüdeniz Bays it’s up to you how you see them, you can have a day out on one of the many daily Boat Trips from Fethiye Harbour or Ölüdeniz Beach, moonlight boat trips or better still charter a yacht for a day or more and get the real feel of sailing.

Paspatur (Fethiye Old Town):

This is a much loved favourite for an afternoon or better still an evening of strolling around old and new shops and enjoying one of the many International and Turkish restaurants with an abundance of Turkish traditional dishes. With a profusion of shops, nooks and crannies ranging from antiques to Turkish textiles to gold and silver shops. Soak up the aromas of spice stands, Turkish Delights shops and much much more.

Cadianda Roman Ruin’s, Uzumlu:

This is a well kept secret and is located 20 minutes in land from Fethiye is the beautiful mountain village of Uzumlu. Just 500 meters above sea level and nestling below the ancient ruins of Cadianda, Uzumlu has managed to retain all the natural charm and character of a traditional Turkish village. This is a great hiking day out, once in Candianda you can explore 3 kilometre area of the ruins under the cool shade of the pine trees with sublime views over Fethiye and beyond.

Fish Market:

Wish we could use a more appealing name for this one! But number 7 on our list is not to be missed, this is a great place for Turkish hospitality, cuisine and great atmosphere which will draw you back again. Choose your fish from the central area in the market, then pick one of the many restaurants if you're not a fish lover not a problem there are lots of dishes to choose from. Your fish is cooked and brought to your table with your dishes picked from the menu. This is very much a local place where Turkish frequent in groups and a great place for people watching and of course the live Turkish music at your table!

Fethiye Market:
