Patara Antique City was the capital of the Lycian Union for a certain period, with 3 votes. During the recent excavations, the Council Building of the Lycian Union and the oldest lighthouse in the world have been unearthed. With its shoreline of 18 km, magnificent antique theatre, agora and the granary at the harbour, Patara was a very influential trade centre of the time and is now under environmental protection because it is one of the locations where the Caretta Caretta come to lay their eggs. Presently, the inhabitants of Patara (Gelemiş Village ) earn their living through tourism on a large scale.
